Men's Clothing
In the 18th Century, men of all classes wore basic clothing. Their basic clothing was a linen shirt ,breeches/trousers (which are like pants), stockings, shoes, a hat, neck cloth/stock, knee garters/gaiters, a waistcoat or sleeved waistcoat (jacket). Although this is considered basic clothing for men in colonial times, their dress was separated by what they did for a living.
Farmer: In addition to some of the basic clothing, a male farmer would aslo wear, a Frock, which is heavy linen, half or full gaiters or leggings (optional) and thier shoes would be leather, tied or buckled and/or moccasins. The men would dress appropiately for the weather as well and wear wool during the cooler days.
Craftsman: Similar to the farmer, the craftsman would also wear a rough to fine linen shit, knee breeches, stockings, leather shoes, a tricorn or round hat, half or full gaiters (which were optional), a jacket and neck cloth.
Riverman: A riverman would wear a short jacket and sailor's trousers instead of breeches, occastionally he would wear slops over his trousers.
Frontiersman: He would wear a rough linen shirt, knee breeches or tousers, a heavy frock, linen with no fringe, wool stockings, moccasins, neck cloth, full gaiters or leggings, leg ties, waist belt or sash, a liberty/voyager cap, tricorn hat, round hat or head cloth.
